A poem to lift the spirit… swallows also welcome to lift the burden of mosquitoes.

Hi Loïc, Happy to see you here. This was written on the top terrace of the apartment watching them each sunset, a real treat for me.

I have bluebirds nesting in my trees.

Oh you lucky man Malcom!

That sure sounds like the first line of a first rate poem!

This is so beautiful! "What joy looks like... sounds like"... Absolutely. I wish I could send you a picture of the woodpecker who regularly visits the hummingbird feeder! And YES, we humans name things and then don't really see or hear them any more.

Weston Parker's avatar

I wish I could see your woodpecker make his visits. I have always loved birds- they make me happy everytime I see them. These swallows zoom overhead in little groups and make such a happy chatter as they fly just over head.

MK Creel's avatar

I can see and hear these divine things, wheeling across an apricot sky.

Weston Parker's avatar

Such happy little beasts.

Swifts and swallows are among my favorite birds to watch. Love the chattering of chimney swifts especially.

Weston Parker's avatar

Yes, that chattering sound is such a sign of a happy little creature.

You are what you are!

Weston Parker's avatar

and I wouldn't mind being a swallow...

Can imagine the joy watching them swoop! never tire of our visitors here at the feeders in the garden. .. (they could do a better job though on those philadelphia mosquitos!)

Weston Parker's avatar

We all cheer them on to snatch as many as possible.

Patris's avatar

we do. even when they miss!

are you affected by the fires there at all? my nephew sent this from the island this morning - orange skies:

Weston Parker's avatar

Just fires in so many places where they didn’t use to be. I don’t remember any big fires in Greece in the 60’s or in France. What a great shot though.

Patris's avatar

there were no fires when i was there that i remember..what i recall were wars around us - jets flying.. and the sinking of a ferry on St. Nicholas day one year (the embodiment of poseidon in the christianity greeks accepted).. i doubt you recall it you were so young..

Weston Parker's avatar

No, don’t recall any of that. We got there in 1965.
