The Piñata- a madness poem.
This is what comes of entertaining an imagination. It is a strange place to occupy, this small madness because I enjoy it so.
This is sometimes how creative things work. This is a twin poem.

Which also reminds of this poem about building a basket.

The Piñata I usually open the doors, let my mind wander around a bit, take a seat and see who or what, walks in. More often than not it is a "what". “Whos” being, by and large, a very dull source of material. Sometimes they look over their figurative shoulders (as most "whats" do not possess a shoulder), give me an encouraging nod and I, with an open mind, ready ink and paper, hustle along so as not to miss a moment. Destination, transportation, company kept, all unknowns. Estimated time of arrival depends upon altogether too many things so it's best to hold off on that question entirely or declaring arrival until we all, or most of us, agree upon what arrival would look like. We happen upon a piñata dangling along amidst a parade of delirium and not a stick in sight! Candy necklaces are being tossed by fabulous ladies who have been nibbling alternating sides of a mushroom growing right on the float. This is precisely the kind of trouble I try to avoid but might be lead into when I let my mind wander. Maybe it would have been better to close those doors immediately or never open them at all, but then, I would merely arrive somewhere safely, except for the deadly boredom, having never laid eyes on that pristine piñata, and they never stay pristine. Side note: I have always liked Lewis Carroll and think an evening spent with him would be very fun.
Fabulous, mystical, and whimsical poems.
That last stanza is especially poignant. There are times where the fear of what's behind an unknown door keeps me away but the "deadly boredom" as you put it, is more of a motivator to try new things. You don't always find the pristine pinata but its possible to find something even better and that outweighs all the not great things you find.
