Another look at the creative process-why it begins, how it progresses, what's at stake, who's on first, where's this thing headed and when will it stop?????? One question mark for each question.
This is brilliantly expressed, thank you for sharing. The creation must begin with the act. What an insidious habit it is to resist the creative urge with the thought that we have nothing to express. How could we possibly know what is about to come through us!?
Hi Weston. Here’s a website that has a good list, and a good start. Digging and Blackberry-picking are favourites of mine, and Sloe gin, too. Death of a Naturalist, too!
"From a shy start / straight to a beating heart." How the most quixotic and enchanting spectacles begin with quietly picking up one's lance (pencil). Thank you, Weston, for the encouraging word.
I’m going to go write now (maybe) thank you!

I'd say mostly we can't "know what is about to come through us!" and it could well be that most people would rather not find out.
Nice. pen as lance makes me think of pen as shovel, as in Seamus Heaney’s
‘Between my finger and my thumb
The squat pen rests.
I’ll dig with it.’
and "Requiem For The Croppies" boy that was a punch in the gut.
I read a bunch of them, all so solid. Loved "Digging". Thanks
I'd like to check him out. What do you recommend I read of his?
