I taught for a few years and remember that eye roll. It can't be too far from their young imaginations to think of inanimate objects taking on a personality. What do they think of the Toy Story movies?
Fortunately, their imagination is great! Thankfully!
I suspect it helps that we're quite strict about limiting screen time. They just know to instinctually tune me out when I get "serious" about some artsy topic or whatevers.
The kids roll their eyes when I ask them what something “wants to be”. Hopefully they get it when they grow up.

What age do you teach?
Oh just incidental conversations with my daughter and son, 9 and 5.
Building a home on a mountain side, no problem! Building a handheld basket, I’m gonna need a strong drink afterwards 😂good stuff
Those baskets are rascals.
I experience something like that with scrap fabric projects... though usually without any blood shed 😅
Every craft has its wacky elements. I really look forward to building some more baskets this summer in Maine.
How did I miss these very beautiful and distinguished baskets???
Aren't they snazzy? That was a couple years ago. Then we built a chair out of the same twigs and then a bookcase- such fun.
They’re amazing! I particularly love the alder handles. What fun it must have been to craft such lovely - and practical - pieces.
It was a real pleasure and I look forward to making more.
You would love a Chinese willow tree. Not a straight branch among them!
