A generation, probably more, has never built with hammer and nail. Or waltzed with their woman. Goddam we’re old.

One of us needs to write a poem about duplex nails. I nominate you.

Ha! We just arrived up here on Swans Island in Maine and I was looking at some of the older tools I have here. I gathered them together to see how they were doing, if the salt air had done any damage and I recited to them the 16 lines of Stopping by woods on a snowy evening" and they liked it.

Swans? That’s where Julie Metz and her significant other Clark are building a house on a plot that had a house but it was too far gone to save. She’s been going there since she was a little kid. You may have seen me comment about my friend Frank who just turned 100 this month. He and my father were best friends. They met in art school in the 40s. He’s a great, great landscape painter. He fought in Patton’s 3rd Army at the Battle of the Bulge. That’s Julie’s dad!! She’s on Substack too as Consideration the Spider.

That is so cool. This Swans Island is 6 miles off the coast of Bar Harbor. Same one? Is she in the middle of the Kennebec River or out in the ocean?

I don’t think substack can DM more than one person at a time but she’s definitely interested in connecting with you. Drop her a DM and I’ll tell her to do the same.

Now this poem just made me subscribe. That was beautiful. Touching. The house, the dance, the love. Thank you

Thanks Jonathan. We can be the antidote to so many of those things you perfectly described.

Thanks. We will likely end up somewhere in New England, near water, that much is for sure.
