I have no room for a rhino."

Why is my mind drifting toward the dreadful inevitability of +®*mp as the GOP front runner? Surely he is the rhino you describe. Funny how he uses the term RINO (Republican in name only) as an insult to others, but he himself is also just a fascist wannabe dictator disguised as a Republican. More so, he is a monster disguised as human. But then we must remember that with him every accusation is an admission. Secure your china shops, folks, the bull is on the prowl.

Thank you Mrs. Parker. I like that interpretation, certainly very plausible.

Perfect description of ‘him’. (I usually add “psycho” though)

Just read this Wes, so excellent. The threat, the cause, the almost comically kind descriptive of ‘tipsy’ - except the potential for his bulk to crush, not merely disorder, remains.

yeah, it's an odd one but fun. Large tipsy thing are scarier than little ones. My artist buddy Doug thinks it would make a great kids story, all illustrated- never occurred to me.

Trust him - and if you like, me — because I definitely agree. Not only this one either.

I was sending this poem to Faye Boam on Substack. She is a hoot. I think this poem is possibly about depression or any mental illness and how it arrives and just wrecks your life. Certainly applies to me but I just write these things and try to keep out of the way of all that second guessing and interpreting. There are so many people better at that than I am.

Guess what? I am already 14 poems into what I hope will be my next book of poetry for 2025!

One of my nephews (a musician/artist) tells me he is never surprised by disaster, that it comes whatever he does or doesn’t do. Just arrives and parks it. It informs his art - and definitely his music.

You have a resilience I would wish him to have. Perhaps poems are valves where philosophy mixes with the grace of sight and saves you so you can share them.

So totally delighted thinking of the second book!

I think you are right about the mixing valves and what a cool notion it is.
